i carry a similar version of that whip made from a dog chain , same kind of wire but it has the brass clip at the end that clips on the collar , i wear this like a belt around my waist and i clip the brass clip on my leather belt that im wearing so it stays on yet is only a quick grab away from deploying and it only needs a quick pull and its out and ready to use , in fact it can be used on the same first pull . All you have to do is stand there with your trigger hand ready to pull out and they wont even know you are wearing it because its wrapped in electrical tape so its pretty much all black and fits around the waist nice and snug and is easily deployable and you can cut the length to any size . Its a must have for everyone , because you just never know when some asshole is going to attack you and the last thing you want to do is fight , with this whip , there is no fight , its over after the fist whip and they wont even see it coming . If you by a 50 foot dog chain you can make 2 whips , as there are clips on each end , just cut it to the length you desire and smooth out the end , you can dip it in resin or whatever works .

Plastic ones could arguably be more defensive since you can punch faster. Heavy hits with the metal knuckle dusters that misses target will leave you vulnerable a bit longer. So if you are fighting a lighter and fast target that can dodge quickly these would be preferred. Then when you fight a heavier guy you might switch to the metal knuckle dusters.

A huge area of injury in all sports is knee trauma from foot sticking and knee twisting to follow the body while generating power! People who don’t turn their feet run much higher risk of injury to the knee! I always coast my students to consciously turn the feet with rotations to build good habits. After you get a kid who tears their ACL and needs surgery it will change your perspective about whether or not you should train good body for coordination!

I got sprayed as part of a training program many years ago, and for some idiot reason, we had a shared soapy water bucket that everybody used instead of individual buckets. You can see the amount of mucus coming out of these two men. Imagine sticking your face into a bucket of soapy water *plus* the snot and spit from over half a dozen people, and you'll understand how I ended up with a nasty sinus infection afterwards. 🙄

Funny your comment about discontinuing things from Cold Steel. I got a couple of these a year or two ago, and they were much smaller than the ones you are using. I was quite annoyed, as I had practiced with the ones you practiced with and was keen on the size. Now the rim is half the size and its almost solely the boss with about 2 inches of rim. Really changes how they operate( at least for sword work).
